Sod Buster Farm

Photo of Clifford ShirkPalomino Valley, 25 miles north of Reno is the home of the 40-acre Sod-Buster Farm. In 2001, Clifford returned to his local family agricultural roots (his grandfather was a chicken farmer on Plumb Lane) to pursue his lifelong interest in farming.

Clifford grows a wide array of vegetables that are organic and free of genetically modified organisms on two acres of the farm. Together with his wife Deborah he raises free-range poultry which is available via special order several times a year.

What we grow

  • Peas
  • Garlic (Applegate giant, German white and Chesnok red)
  • Carrots
  • Beets
  • Tomatoes
  • Peppers (variety of bell peppers and New Mexico Joe Anaheim)
  • Beans (yellow wax, Kentucky and Blue Lake)
