Believe it. It’s real. Our community-owned food co-op has received $416,244 in member pledges and membership equity 10 year investments in order to proceed with constructing and moving into the new store / new co-op location. Our goals was $415,000 in order to begin our work on the community cafe and commercial basement kitchen.

The Great Basin Community Food Cooperative has officially raised enough $$ in member loan pledges to move forward with signing the lease for the new store / new co-op!! Our minimum turn around point was $277,000. We are now at $329,363 in member loan pledges and 10 year membership equity payments!! If we raise another $86,000 then we can start our planning for the co-op community kitchen and cafe. See the carrot money thermometer.

Fall Seedling Sale. There will be fall seedlings and locally made goods from a bunch of our area’s favorite producers: Hungry Mother Organics, Mewaldt Organics, 4 Season Farms, Fontana Farms, Nevada’s Own, Misty Crystal Goat Ranch, and more! There will be fresh-baked, locally prepared gluten-free goods, local hand-made goat milk soaps, hand-made jewelery, a variety of egg and chicken farmers, and hourly goat milking!! Come early to enjoy the Hub’s responsibly sourced french-pressed coffee and learn more about what other cool grassroots and nonprofit organizations are doing in Reno.

Here we are again… though I will say that things are feeling quite a bit more in sync this week. I’ve discerned the notable differences between the root looking member of the cabbage family (kohlrabi) and the traditional French tossed stew (Ratatouille), no more ordering comfort food from a veggie wholesaler for me. To add to that, I’ve recently learned that there are farmers in NV growing Hawaiian ginger. I made a super good salad dressing that thought I’d pass it along.
