Local Produce Truck Benefit Show

On April 29 at 9 p.m. at Lincoln Lounge we are having the first of 3 benefit shows in hopes that we raise $1,600 for a refrigerated/freezer truck that one of our farmers is selling in Lovelock, NV as part of the Cooperative Distribution Center (CDC) project for local farm goods. The cover is $5 and the the owners of the bar (also owners of Imperial and Granite St.) have said that they will match whatever we make at the door.  Check out the show flier with the picture of the produce truck.

Earth Day 2011 – Food Village

On Sunday, May 1, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., your food co-op is hosting the Food Village at Earth Day! Come join us and just about every other awesome community food group like Slow Food Reno, Friends of NV Organics, Edible Reno-Tahoe and more!!  There will also be dozens of the areas local farmers and plenty of fun, educational booths for the entire family. Spring Seedling Sale

Our annual parking lot spring seedling sale this year is on Saturday, May 21 from 9 a.m. to noon.   Basil, Tomatoes, Kale varieties, herbs, melons, lettuce, flowers and more!!  All local from the same farmers who bring you the best food Reno has to offer.

Homemade Gluten-Free Cookies

For those of you who were unable to make it to the Fall Seedling Sale last Saturday and taste Absolutely Michelle’s local homemade GLUTEN-FREE cookies… no worries, we are now carrying them in the store!  Made with fresh, organic ingredients including her local eggs.  The Chocolate chip Peanut Butter and Lemongrass Thai Cookies are beyond AMAZING!

Best of Northern Nevada: Best Independent Grocery Store

Thank you everyone who voted the Great Basin Community Food Co-op the Best Independent Grocery Store in Northern Nevada! We also took 2nd for best green service, 3rd for best green store and 2nd for best green non-profit… which is funny because we are a Cooperative Association, not a 501c3 non-profit.

Our very own Lattin Farms won 1st place under Best Local Farm!  This month they are hosting their annual corn maze.  This weekend is particularly special because it will take place under a full moon.  See the image of this year’s “Know Your Farmer. Know Your Food” themed maze at the farm.  The image is coming directly from the White House Blog posted after Deputy Secretary Kathleen Merrigan visited the farm and was so impressed!!

Holland Project’s Yearly Halloween Cover Benefit Show

Also this weekend on Saturday night is the Holland Project’s Yearly Halloween Cover benefit Show!  If you don’t already know about Reno’s incredible  All Ages Youth Arts and Music Non Profit we call Holland, now is the time to check it out! Some of our co-op staff members will be participating in this rocking event to help create  music and arts space for youth in Reno.  Hope to see you there :)

There will be fresh-baked, locally prepared gluten-free goods, local hand-made goat milk soaps, hand-made jewelery, a variety of egg and chicken farmers, and hourly goat milking!! Come early to enjoy the Hub’s responsibly sourced french-pressed coffee and learn more about what other cool grassroots and nonprofit organizations are doing in Reno.
