Why become a member-worker?
Perhaps one of the most unique aspects of the cooperative movement is the necessity for community involvement. While being a member-worker is not mandatory, it is strongly encouraged that all member-owners participate and get involved to strengthen their Co-op. GBCFC relies on member-workers who devote their time and labor to the organization. Member-workers enable GBCFC to keep operational costs down and they are truly the cornerstone of a functional, vibrant co-op. Plus member-workers can earn a variety of purchase discounts!
OK, I’m in. But how do I get started?
There are a number of ways to get involved. Some folks like to help in the store cashiering, stocking and receiving deliveries or helping close the store at night. This is a great way to meet new people and assist employees with day-to-day store operations. Others prefer to help out “behind the scenes” by joining one of our various committees or by helping with special projects.
Please keep in mind, in-store member-workers will need to go through a one hour register training session before they are able to work a shift. Trainings are typically held twice a month.
