Member-Worker Program

IMPORTANT: There will only be one more in-store training for shifts to get us through our last month or so at 542 1/1 Plumas St. That training will be December 10, 2011 from 8-9am. Please contact Laila Murfin, member-worker coordinator, if you would like to join this training.

The Great Basin Community Food Cooperative is sustained primarily by the time donated by our member workers.

What is a member-worker?

A member-worker is a current GBCFC member who donates their time working either in the store or outside of it (see below for more ideas on how to get involved).

Why become a member worker?

It’s a great way to meet other members in the community, you will be helping to sustain and develop Reno’s only food co-op, you will be supporting the local food movement? What about that good feeling that you get when you watch something amazing grow in your community? Member Workers also enjoy additional benefits, please inquire for details.

Tuesday and Fridays are our order intake days.  One of the most important Member Worker shifts is helping out from 5am-7am on these days.  If you are interested in joining the dawn crew, please arrange to train before signing up for a shift.  Trainings are held the last Friday of each month at 5 a.m.  Please sign up by sending us an e-mail.

You can help out in the store as operations support staff.  You will find yourself performing a wide variety of tasks that keep the co-op running smoothly!  Before signing up for an in-store Member-Worker shift, you will need to do a short training.  Store operations trainings are held Saturdays at 8 a.m. by appointment.  If you are interested in attending a register training session, please sign-up in-person at the store or by sending us an e-mail.

Other ways to get involved

Finally, many member-workers prefer to work out of the store by joining committee .
