GREAT BASIN COMMUNITY FOOD COOPERATIVE HOSTS GRAND OPENING PARTY, SPRING SEEDLING SALE, Craft Fair, Food, Music and More at 240 Court Street on Saturday, May 26th
Reno, NV—At 240 Court Street, Reno, Nevada, the “Biggest Little Cooperative in the West” is poised to celebrate the move to larger quarters with a Grand Opening Block Party and Seedling Sale this Saturday from 9am to 1pm on Flint Street (See the flyer!) The Grand Opening event will showcase the best of sustainable organizations in northern Nevada, including our finest organic and natural farmers and producers, independent crafters, urban gardeners, educators, and bicyclists.
The parking lot will be full of fresh, local, green seedlings for your garden carefully nurtured from area farmers, from as far away as Mewaldt & Lattin Farms in Fallon, Churchill Butte Farms in northern Lyon county, and from growers like Reno High School’s Sustainable Agriculture Project. Several non-profits are scheduled to contribute, including Wheel to Reel, who will provide a bicycle-powered sound stage for the DJ stage. The Reno Bike Project will be helping direct parking for bicyclists, and shuttling seedlings to patrons’ cars. There will be food from the Dish Cafe and Gino’s Soup, and delicious coffees from Blind Dog and the Hub; Reno’s premier roasters. The event is kid-friendly, with a Kids Camp run by Rachael K and the ever-popular Urban Roots Garden Classrooms.
There will also be independently made arts and crafts from Indie Reno, where shoppers will find an array of unique handmade gifts to fit their budget, as well as garden tours every half-hour of the unique Edible Landscape demonstration gardens that surround the Cooperative.
COME TO THE ANNUAL HOLLAND PROJECT/GBCFC GARDENING WORKSHOP on Sunday May 27th from 10am – 12pm at Holland’s new home — 140 Vesta St. Reno, NV 89502. Farmer Todd will be teaching everyone about raised bed gardening, soil amendment, compost, companion planting, irrigation systems and MORE!
