Wellness Wednesday: Non-GMO month

Non-GMO Month

All over our store, you’ve probably noticed butterflies hanging from the ceiling and tons of stickers marking Non-GMO products. The truth is that in many grocery stores and supermarkets across North America, there’s an abundance of products made with genetically modified organisms. As consumers, we have a right to know what’s in our food and to make the choice to avoid GMOs.

GMOs not only appear in snacks and breakfast cereals, but also in many other unlikely places. In our Wellness Dept we have several Non-GMO Project verified supplements. Brands like Garden of Life, Nordic Naturals, and Health Force (to name a few) participate in Non-GMO Project verification.

Vitamin C & D

Last month, we discussed immunity boosters and the different ways we can prepare for cold & flu season. Vitamin C & D, vital nutrients hailed for their immunity boosting properties, are tried and true classics. In addition to helping you ward off a cold, these vitamins are essential for all over well being. During fall and winter when you may experience a deficiency in either or both, it’s important to make sure you eat foods rich in these vitamins or take a supplement!

Some foods rich in Vitamin D: salmon, eggs, sardines, shrimp; fortified cereal, yogurt, and juice
Some foods rich in Vitamin C: lemons, oranges, grapefruits, tomatoes, broccoli, red bell peppers

Sometimes it’s tough to get enough C & D through the foods we eat! Here are some great supplements you can find in our Wellness Department: Nordic Naturals Vitamin D3 Gummies- these taste great!- and Health Force Truly Natural Vitamin C (a great non-GMO option!)
