Kick off the growing season at the Great Basin Community Food Co-op’s ever-popular Seedling Sale Saturday 28th May from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m… Now in its ninth year, the event features local bio-adaptive seedlings to get your garden growing, along with local vendors, tasty food, fresh juice and coffee, and lots of fun for the whole family.
There are many advantages to purchasing seedlings at the Seedling Sale instead of a big box store. The seedlings are grown in the region and are adapted to the local climate, plus the farmers are on hand to offer tips on how to successfully raise the plants. Many of the seedlings are hand chosen from the producers’ own varieties because they have done so well in the area. Additionally, most of the producers are certified organic or meet the Great Basin Community Food Co-op’s definition of Sustainable – meaning that they don’t use any synthetic fertilizers, genetically modified (GMO) seed, or toxic herbicides and pesticides.
A green thumb is not required to enjoy the festivities. Kids and adults alike will love petting the baby goats visiting from Misty Crystal Ranch, or you can get up close and personal with alpacas from Sawdust Alpacas. Food options will be plentiful, with the Co-op kitchen launching its new Breakfast Burrito featuring local Holley Farms Sausage and local Palomino Valley Eggs! Vegan and GF options will also be available as well as freshly made juices and COFFEEBAR French press for only $1 a cup!
Featuring Local Farm and Vendor stalwarts: Mewaldt Organics, Hungry Mother Organics, Holley Family Farms, Churchill Butte, Farmer Todd Rissone, Full Circle Compost, Urban Roots, and the NEW Nevada Organic Certification Agency: Basin and Range Organics, the event is not to be missed!
