Arnold and Rusty at Glorious Garlic in Washoe Valley, NV. Do we really understand the true cost of food? What does is take to bring high quality, small scale local goods that are grown with organic methods to consumers? The food subsidies for GMO commodity crops that we are all forced to pay for in our paycheck taxes are something worth looking into, especially this year as they currently update the USDA Farm Bill. Last November The Congressional Budget Office speculated that the farm bill would cost us $489 billion over the next 5 years. In the last writing of the farm bill, small scale organic farmers only received approx $55million of this funding as the majority of these funds went to the federal snap program and large scale genetically modified commodity crops.
